Knowledge Management: The Integration of Three MEM Documentation Programs
While MEM offers a variety of programs and services, three programs stand out as complimenting each other exceptionally well in the area of organizational documentation. One program provides the basics of business writing that help to develop reader-based communication, while the others provide methodologies for documenting the what, when, where, how, and who of organizational activities. These three programs are Structured Writing (SWP), the Desk Manual Program (DMP), and the Directive & Information System (D&I).
The Structured Writing Program (SWP) provides a structured process for developing written communications with a focus on writing for the reader. The goal is to take general ideas and transform them into clear, succinct communication pieces that effectively convey a message. Learn more.
The Desk Manual Program (DMP) provides a systematic approach for the documentation of an individual’s job tasks in an incremental manner. Documenting one’s job answers what I do and how I do it for an individual stepping into that position, and the required reporting structure of the DMP ensures best practices are followed. Learn more.
The Directive & Information System (D&I) provides a methodology for documenting the policies and procedures of an organization. The D&I stands out from other policy and procedure documentation programs in two distinct ways:
- The use of subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and maintenance of the information
- An approval process that takes into account the organization – wide impact of each policy or procedure prior to implementation. Learn more.
