Directive and Information System (D&I)

The D&I positions organizational documentation as a resource for training, on-going reference, compliance, and overall performance improvement.

The MEMC Directive and Information (D&I) System provides a coordinated set of procedures to document, organize, and communicate the “how we do things,” or policies, practices, and procedures of an organization.
Why is it important to systematically document policies and procedures?
It is important to document policies and procedures in order to
- Provide for repeatable behavior through accessible guidelines
- Be used as the framework for the application of company goals, objectives, and core business processes
- Facilitate employee training
- Help employees make informed decisions
- Promote employee judgment and discretion to make decisions in the execution of duties within defined boundaries
- Enable managers to control activities and initiatives by adhering to organizational rules and expectation
Organizational policy, practice, and procedure are most effective when communicated to those whose activities involve the application of that documentation. Since it is extremely difficult to anticipate which employees will have a need for specific policy, practice, and procedure, it follows that all information (except for confidential or highly sensitive information) should be accessible to all employees.
How it works. The tools and writing format that comprise the D&I take you step by step through the design, content development, approval, delivery and ongoing maintenance of organizational documentation. To assist with accuracy and ease of content development, subject matter experts are used to get buy-in during writing phases, communicate new, or revised, policies/procedures, and review/validate content regularly.
